MILIPOL QATAR 2024

The 2024 Milipol event took place from October 29-31 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) in Doha, Qatar. As the global event for homeland security and civil defence, Milipol 2024 focused on addressing transnational security challenges through innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.

Participating in this year’s event, the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) showcased its expertise in risk management, security consultancy, and scenario-based training programs. QIASS highlighted its commitment to equipping professionals across government, commercial, and non-profit sectors with practical skills to address real-world security challenges.

Key areas of focus included: innovative approaches to training; tools for cyber monitoring and misinformation management; and actionable strategies for tackling complex security threats.

2024 GLOBAL SECURITY FORUM

The 2024 Global Security Forum took place from May 20-22 in Doha, Qatar. The theme of this year’s forum was Strategic Competition: The Complexity of Interdependence. The conference addressed today’s global security challenges within the context of strategic competition while assessing both risks and opportunities that result from complex interdependence. This year’s forum included discussions on topics such as: supply chain management; climate change as a threat multiplier; energy security; essential technologies such as high-end semiconductors; food insecurity; and the practice of hostage-taking by state and non-state actors, among other related topics.

BILATERAL QATAR-U.S. HOSTAGE RECOVERY EXERCISE

July 23-25, 2023 Doha, Qatar

The three-day bilateral Qatar-US hostage recovery exercise, organized under the auspices of HE Minister of Interior and Commander of Lekhwiya Force Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani concluded on Tuesday in Doha.

The exercise, organized by the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) at the officers’ club in the Internal Security Force camp (Lekhwiya), saw the participation of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Security Agency, and the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) from the Qatari side. From the US side, the exercise saw the participation of representatives of the Department of State, the Department of Defense, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the US Embassy in Qatar.

2023 GLOBAL SECURITY FORUM

The 2023 Global Security Forum took place from March 13-15, in Doha, Qatar. The 2023 Global Security Forum theme was Reshaping the Global Order. The conference focused on international approaches to conflict, crises, and cooperation and included discussions on topics such as: the global energy crisis and approaches to strengthening sustainable economies; great power competition, shaped by the war in Ukraine; the evolution of global terrorism and emerging threats; violent far-right extremist networks and financing; and the disinformation-terrorism nexus.
